I think this would be a tremendous idea for the long-term unemployed. They could learn new skills, respect, discipline, focus and would also build a stronger and better Australia in my opinion. Would love to hear your thoughts on the matter! Reply here or give me a call the next time I am on-air.
Regards,
Dean
I am afraid that this would lead to higher taxes to pay for their services which they should not have to provide. As we are fighting illegal wars for profit and no one should be made to sacrifice their lives so the rich can get richer and the war machine can continue to march across the world.
I suspect the wars that will concern us in this country may actually be fought HERE unfortunately but I agree with you for the most part Tony.
If there was enough work worth doing it would be paid award wage and called employment not national service. National service is either adult daycare or forced work to replace legitimate employment… both are terrible ideas.
Forcing employers to share available work hours and employ more people as a result would be a better option. But individuals are too greedy and want to work 40-100 hours a week when that work could be done by 2-4 people.
What a war monger you are, forcing the unemployed to fight your ideological battles for your misguided ideas. Why don’t you try living on $ 269 a week for awhile and see how tough it is. With all your conspiracy theories you spout on your radio show about globalisation & privatisation, you do a very good job of head-kicking the unemployed,(2 minutes in to your show (23/1/16). Do you know Dean that there are 7 people to one job vacancy nationally, in rural areas it is much, much higher. I’m sure your shock jock heroes , John Laws and Ray Hadley will be proud of your fascist beliefs. The same as your Tony Abbotts’ view that climate change is crap, despite the fact that the U.S. is facing one of the biggest storms in a 100 years and some of the biggest floods England has recently gone through. The climate seems to be changing much faster and the suspected cause of the warming is greenhouse gasses, but if global temperatures are rising, how can a freeze threaten Britain? The answer lies in the ocean currents, especially the Gulf Stream,a huge warm surface current that travels from the hot Caribbean towards northern Europe .As it flows, it releases heat equivalent to the annual output of 1 million power stations into the overlying air – creating the warm winds that keep Europe’s climate so mild. So why is the gulf stream under threat? Scientists point the finger at the north Atlantic and the seas around Greenland where they have been studying one of the “engines” that drives the system: the sinking of dense supercooled water from ice shelves .In the past, each winter saw tracts of sea water freezing to form ice shelves. As it froze it released salt into the surrounding water, making the water heavy enough to sink to the seabed. That water flows south toward the Caribbean before warming again and rising. This cycle forms currents , including the Gulf Stream. The problem now is that since around 1977 the ice shelves have stopped forming as they once did – and so the water has stopped sinking. Peter Wadhams, professor of ocean physics at Cambridge University, believes this is because global warming has raised temperatures in the Artic. He recently verified his theory by hitching rides under the Artic ice cap in Royal Navy submarines to take samples. “Until recently, we would find giant chimneys in the sea where columns of cold , dense water were sinking from the surface to the seabed” he said. “Now they have almost disappeared”. Some instruments were showing that the deep ocean currents were smaller and slower than ever before. Others were showing how the same water was less salty than normal and a bit warmer. For ocean scientists, such findings were shocking. So what is going on? ‘What we were getting were the first inklings that the structure of the ocean could be changing” said Dr Richard Sanders, a chemical oceanographer from the National Oceanography Centre at the University of Southampton, who was monitoring the instruments on the voyage. The data appeared to be the first real evidence that greenhouse gasses might be affecting the circulation of the oceans, if true it could mean that the temperate climate in which northern Europe had flourished for thousands of years is going to be plunged into icy winter. Scientists are seeing a 30% reduction in Atlantic ocean circulation, with some currents diminishing by as much as 50%. If the Gulf Stream were to continue to weaken it could give Britain a much colder climate, similar to that of Alaska. Yeah, it’s all crap as your climate sceptic mate Anthony constantly rings up lecturing everyone that it’s all O.K. and that we should embrace clean safe nuclear ” Fukashima , Chernobyl energy .and that solar energy just doesn’t cut it. Leon Delaney outed your mate Anthony as the secretary of the climate change sceptics society, well what a surprise , it’s time you come clean too Dean, are you a member of the sceptics group too ???
I’ll have to admit that you had me so bored by the end of the 4th line I just couldn’t be bothered reading any further. As for why don’t I try living on $269 a week… no thanks, I prefer to WORK and have done so since the age of 10 with a paper run, then McDonalds and by 15 my very own Online Bulletin Board. Why don’t YOU try working and living on $2690 per week? I can highly recommend it.
Cheers,
Dean
I realise I’m late commenting, BUT……….. One would expect that someone with such boundless energy as Craig Marlow would be less stupid!
